Remembering Sean

Sean Coxhead was an inspirational runner and fundraiser from York as well as being one of our See York Run York family. After receiving his 1 year cancer prognosis on 15th May 2018, Sean made it his mission to raise as much money as possible for Macmillan Cancer Support.

As part of Sean's fundraising campaign and in order to mark reaching his 1 year prognosis, Sean launched the Ribbon Run and this first event took place in May 2019. This was a virtual run where people ran a 5km route which included part of their run being in the shape of a Macmillan Cancer Ribbon. The purpose of the run was to spread Macmillan Cancer Ribbons across Strava and other social media sites.

Sadly, Sean passed away in 2019, but we remembered him in 2020 by hosting a virtual Ribbon Run and we were proud to continue the fundraising that Sean started.  This year, with the permission of Sean's family, we are continuing the fundraising with a virtual event to earn 1 (or both) of our popular event medals Chocolate 10k and Elvington.

Decide which medal you would like and then complete the appropriate distance (10k to earn the Chocolate 10k medal and either 5 mile or 10 mile to earn the Elvington Medal).  There is also the option to earn the Elvington Fun Run medal.

Medals can be earnt however you like - running, walking, rowing, swimming, cycling and is open to all ages - young and old.

Medals will be posted out in batches as entries come in, there is no need to provide evidence.  All we ask is that you share your activity in our Facebook Chat Group #SYRYRememberingSean so that we can keep Sean's memory and desire to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support alive.

All money from the event after postage costs will be donated to Sean's JustGiving Page
