I was going to briefly comment about my daughter, Eva's, achievements in my next blog post but I am so, so proud, and she fully deserves a blog post just for her.
I am always doing bits and bobs for charity but it usually involves being sponsored to run or raising money via bake sales. I wanted to do something slightly different this time and something completely out of my comfort zone.
I spotted an article in the press about a local hairdresser who cut off a client's hair (with their consent!) and donated the hair to a charity called, The Little Princess Trust. This charity makes wigs for people undergoing cancer treatments. After sadly losing my gorgeous cousin, Steph, to cancer last year, it seemed like the perfect challenge.
After speaking with the hairdresser, Kayleigh Bradshaw, I knew it was the right thing to do. Kayleigh gave me a leaflet about the charity and I took it home.
Eva sat and read through the information and decided, she wanted to donate her own hair also. Eva is 10 and her hair was really long, almost down to her waist so this was an extremely brave decision for a little girl.
The appointment was booked for Thursday 28th July. I was rather nervous both for myself and Eva. If Eva was in any way nervous, she didn't show it, not one bit.
I went first. I managed to donate 9 inches of hair to The Little Princess Trust.
Completely undeterred, Eva went next and managed to donate a cracking 12 inches of hair to The Little Princess Trust.
In addition to donating her hair, Eva has also managed to raise just over £200.00 in sponsorship money. It costs between £300.00 and £400.00 for The Little Princess Trust to make the wigs, so this is a good chunk towards one wig. I am so proud of Eva doing such a selfless act.
I asked her later why she had chosen to do it. Eva said that she had been doing some research on the internet, looking at The Little Princess Trust website and reading through the stories and because of what she had seen, she knew it was a good thing to do.
Eva's looks gorgeous with her new short do. I love you Eva. You are amazing. xxx
Here are some pics from the hair cut challenge. Enjoy!
