My apologies, it has been a while since I've had time to update my blog. It's been a whirlwind few weeks.
I'm currently on holiday from work and this is the first time that we have had a "staycation", which is simply a fancy way of saying we're not travelling abroad this year. So, if we are not going away, you would assume we would have some quiet family time at home. Wrong. We have been here, there and everywhere and this is the first day that I've had a few minutes to get my site updated!
Last week, we stayed local and took the opportunity to visit sights local to York. We're lucky to have picked a cracking couple of weeks off - we couldn't have hoped for better weather (well, apart from Friday but that's a story for another day).
I'm splitting my blog into a few smaller chunks, firstly so I don't bore you all and secondly so I can fit in more photos as you know I love to take lots of pics!
Monday was our theme park holiday trip. We have one of these no matter where in the world we have our holidays. My eldest, Mill, is a bit of a dare devil and appears to possess no fear. She loves all rollercoasters and the scarier, the better. My youngest, Eva, however prefers the more gentile rides and the fairground games where she can try and win more cuddly toys to add to her humongous collection.
We headed off to Flamingo Land, which is about a 30 - 40 minute drive out of York (depending on the traffic). We had a glorious day. We arrived early and managed to get on most of the rides, a couple of the rides were closed which was a little disappointing, well for Millie anyway (I was rather relieved that I did not have to feign braveness and go on Cliffhanger - I have a fear of falling and this ride basically takes you way up in the sky above the Park and then drops you at great speeds back to earth - terrifying!)
It's a great place to visit for younger kids - lots of smaller rides and there is a animal park to walk around (or you can travel around this bit on the train if your legs are too tired). Millie loves it too but she soon runs out of scary rides to go on and tends to go on the same rides over and over, if the queues permit. We struggled to find enough to entertain Eva as the rides were either too big or too babyish. Had we had a bottomless pot of money, I'm sure she would have just squandered this all on the fairground games and not gone on any rides at all.
Here are a couple of snaps from the day and my absolute favourite sort of photo - the ride photo (notice how Millie looks so casual while the rest of us are gripping on for dear life)!
